Moved back up to active roster

The Saints elevated Merritt from the practice squad Thursday for Saturday's game against the Browns, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.

Analysis: Merritt was promoted to the active roster for each of the last two games, though he did not record a catch while playing just nine of his 35 snaps on offense during this span. The 25-year-old could be in line for increased playing time versus Atlanta after veteran wideout Jarvis Landry (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Thursday. With Chris Olave (hamstring) also ruled out for Week 16, expect Merritt to slot in as New Orleans' No. 4 wideout behind Rashid Shaheed, Tre'Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway on Saturday.

Signed from practice squad

The Saints signed Merritt to the active roster ahead of Monday Night Football versus the Buccaneers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

The 25-year-old caught just one of his three targets for 13 yards across two elevations from Miami's practice squad last season. Merritt did see snaps as both a running back and wide receiver in training camp, though he's unlikely to see much usage barring any injuries to the Saints' starting skill players.

Catches one ball in win

Merritt caught one of three targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 17-9 win over the Texans.

Analysis: Merritt was elevated from Miami's practice squad and saw his first game action of the season. The 24-year-old wideout played on just 11 of the team's 75 offensive snaps. Merritt could've had a bigger day had Jacoby Brissett connected with him on a deep target during the contest. Unfortunately, the ball was slightly underthrown and Merritt couldn't reel it in. The 6-foot-1, 214-pounder could continue to be used in a depth role for the Dolphins with both DeVante Parker and Will Fuller on injured reserve.

Retained on practice squad

The Dolphins signed Merritt to the practice squad Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Analysis: Merritt never had a realistic chance to secure a spot on the initial 53-man roster, given Miami's tremendous depth at wide receiver, but the second-year pro will get to continue his development with the team. As a rookie in 2020, Merritt appeared in one game for the Dolphins.
