Levine Toilolo: Ready for MNF

Toilolo (hamstring) is active for Monday's game versus the Steelers, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Analysis: Toilolo logged limited sessions during the practice week and made enough progress for his Giants debut. The 29-year-old doesn't present much fantasy value as the No. 3 TE behind Evan Engram and Kaden Smith.

Levine Toilolo: Officially questionable

Toilolo (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Monday's contest against the Steelers, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Analysis: Toilolo probably doesn't present much fantasy upside, but his status is up in the air nevertheless ahead of Monday's prime-time contest. Both Evan Engram and Kaden Smith figure to be ahead of Toilolo on the depth chart whether he's able to play or not.

Levine Toilolo: Nursing hamstring injury

Toilolo was limited in Thursday's practice due to a hamstring issue, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

Analysis: Toilolo isn't likely to offer fantasy relevance behind Evan Engram and Kaden Smith, but the Giants are counting on his presence as a blocker. He'll work to resume practicing in full before Monday's tilt against the Steelers.

Levine Toilolo: Joining Big Blue

Toilolo is signing with the Giants, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Analysis: Toilolo figures to take on the blocking role previously occupied by Rhett Ellison, who announced his retirement from football last week. Toilolo will turn 29 in July, coming off a 2019 campaign with the 49ers in which he caught two passes on 191 offensive snaps. He has 97 receptions in 108 career regular-season games.

Levine Toilolo: Primarily used as blocker

Toilolo had two receptions for 10 yards over 13 games this season.

Analysis: Toilolo only saw two targets despite playing 194 offensive snaps. Coach Kyle Shanahan preferred to use the tight end's 6-foot-8, 268 pound frame as a blocker in the 49ers' zone-run scheme. Toilolo's fantasy value only comes as a red-zone target in scenarios where he is higher on the depth chart. The 28-year-old is an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him back in San Francisco's camp given his familiarity with Shanahan's offense both this year and their time together in Atlanta.

Levine Toilolo: Watching from sidelines Sunday

Toilolo (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Packers.

Analysis: With George Kittle (ankle/knee) active, Toilolo will miss his first game of the season, as Ross Dwelley and Garrett Celek will fill in as depth to Kittle. Toilolo mainly serves as a run-blocking option when he's active, catching just two passes for 10 yards over 10 games this year.

Levine Toilolo: Practices in full Friday

Toilolo (groin) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Toilolo practiced on a limited basis Wednesday and Thursday before returning as a full participant Friday. If George Kittle (knee) sits out again, Toilolo and Garrett Celek will likely see limited snaps behind Ross Dwelley against Arizona.

November 15, 2019 2:51 PM EST

Levine Toilolo: Limited participant Wednesday

Toilolo (groin) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice.

Analysis: The 28-year-old didn't have an injury designation for Monday's loss to the Seahawks and played 12 offensive snaps, but he's not fully over the groin injury. Toilolo's status could have increased importance in Week 11 with George Kittle (knee) and Garrett Celek (back) also battling injuries.

Levine Toilolo: Starts third preseason contest

Toilolo (shoulder) started at tight end in Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs.

Analysis: Toilolo sat out the second preseason game due to the shoulder issue but returned to play 18 snaps Saturday. The 28-year-old caught 21 of 24 targets for 263 yards and one touchdown with the Lions last season and is fighting for the No. 2 role behind George Kittle.

Levine Toilolo: Unlikely to play Monday

Toilolo (shoulder) is expected to sit out Monday's preseason game against the Broncos, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Analysis: Tiololo is recovering from shoulder surgery, so his lack of availability is unsurprising. As long as the veteran tight end remains sidelined, Kaden Smith stands to see increased work behind No. 2 tight end Ross Dwelley.

Levine Toilolo: Dealing with shoulder injury

Toilolo has not practice the past three days while he nurses shoulder soreness, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Coach Kyle Shanahan would go on to say Wednesday that Toilolo likely won't practice the rest of the week ahead of Monday's preseason game against Denver. It's unclear how he picked up the injury, but it could have just developed from the regular wear and tear of training camp. If the 28-year-old misses Monday's game, Kaden Smith could be in line for an increased workload.

Levine Toilolo: Joining 49ers

Toilolo is signing a contract with the 49ers, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Analysis: Toilolo had a career-high 263 yards for the Lions last season and has missed just one game through six years in the NFL. He's best known for his work as a run blocker, though he offers a bit more pass-catching utility than the typical blocking specialist. This signing might inspire the 49ers to release fellow tight end Garrett Celek, who handled the No. 2 role behind George Kittle in 2018. At the very least, Celek will need to battle Toilolo for snaps in two-TE formations.

Levine Toilolo: Snags touchdown in season finale

Toilolo caught all four of his targets for 43 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's victory in Green Bay.

Analysis: Toilolo snuck free on a fake field-goal attempt to collect a perfect pass from kicker Matt Prater for what marked the tight end's first touchdown as a member of the Lions. The veteran otherwise served as nothing more than a secondary, short-range target for quarterback Matthew Stafford, just like Toilolo has been most of the season. Set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the league year, the reliable Toilolo seems like an obvious candidate to be retained by Detroit in the offseason, though the blocking-oriented veteran doesn't carry the athletic upside to approach the 2019 campaign as an exciting fantasy option in any format -- regardless of whether he's the starter or not.

Levine Toilolo: Workload dips in Week 16

Toilolo secured his only target for 16 yards during Sunday's 27-9 victory over Detroit.

Analysis: Toilolo saw a significantly lighter workload than he has in recent weeks on a day quarterback Matthew Stafford peppered star wideout Kenny Golladay with a gaudy 15 targets. He'll look to rebound in Week 17 against a Packers team that just surrendered six receptions for 82 yards and one touchdown to Jets rookie tight end Chris Herndon this Sunday a week after allowing Bears tight ends to log six receptions for 75 yards and a score in Week 15.

December 23, 2018 6:21 PM EST

Levine Toilolo: Catches four more passes

Toilolo secured all four of his targets for 28 yards during Sunday's 14-13 loss to Buffalo.

Analysis: Toilolo had only seen more than one target on one occasion through the first 11 games of the season, but the tight end has averaged over three targets and 48 receiving yards per game over the last three weeks. With Michael Roberts (shoulder) on injured reserve, it's not a stretch to think Toilolo could continue to see consistent looks in the passing game during the final two games of the season.

December 17, 2018 11:18 AM EST

Levine Toilolo: Falls back down to earth

Toilolo secured both of his targets for 26 yards during Sunday's 17-3 victory over Arizona.

Analysis: Toilolo predictably fell back down to earth in his first showing after catching four of six targets for a career-high 90 yards last week against Los Angeles. Still without a touchdown and just one target in the red zone over 14 games, Toilolo will remain an unattractive fantasy option in Week 15 against the Bills.

December 9, 2018 7:06 PM EST

Levine Toilolo: Nets career-high 90 receiving yards

Toilolo secured four of six targets for 90 yards during Sunday's 30-16 loss to the Rams.

Analysis: Toilolo set a new career high in single-game receiving yardage against a Rams defense that came into Sunday allowing the fourth-most yards to tight ends per game in 2018 (68.5). Considering Toilolo only recorded 100 yards on his nine other catches this season, this performance from the typical blocking specialist truly came out of nowhere. If Michael Roberts (shoulder) remains unable to play in Week 14, Toilolo could again see a number of targets down the seam against a Cardinals defense that's allowed only three touchdowns to tight ends this year.

December 2, 2018 6:10 PM EST

Levine Toilolo: Catches one pass

Toilolo caught one pass for 13 yards during Sunday's 20-19 victory over Carolina.

Analysis: Even with Marvin Jones (knee) and Michael Roberts (shoulder) out of action --and with the Lions still looking for pass catchers to step up in the wake of Golden Tate's trade to Philly -- Toilolo remained an afterthought in the gameplan. Don't expect that to change in Week 12 against the Bears.

November 18, 2018 4:46 PM EST

Levine Toilolo: No targets in Minnesota

Toilolo was not targeted in the passing game during Sunday's 24-9 loss to the Vikings.

Analysis: After averaging over 25 offensive snaps per game over the first six games of the season, Toilolo hasn't topped 16 in either of the past two weeks. If the tight end is intentionally being given a diminished workload, the blocking-oriented Toilolo will become even less relevant for fantasy purposes.

November 5, 2018 1:11 PM EST

Levine Toilolo: Snags lone target

Toilolo was targeted once during Sunday's 28-14 loss to Seattle, converting it into a 12-yard gain.

Analysis: The catch was Toilolo's first since Week 4. There might have been some thought that the statuesque Toilolo could provide a red-zone threat for a Detroit offense without much established talent at tight end, but second-year player Michael Roberts has emerged as the red-zone target. Maybe the departure of receiver Golden Tate, who was traded to Philadelphia on Tuesday, opens things up for the tight ends, but it seems most likely that Roberts and starter Luke Willson would benefit were that to be the case. A matchup against an improving Vikings pass defense looms Sunday.
