Malachi Corley Inactive In Week 5

New York Jets wide receiver Malachi Corley has been declared inactive ahead of the Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The rookie wideout hasn't seen any action in the passing game since Week 2. The Jets have a Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mike Williams, and Xavier Gibson, so Corley isn't needed right now. It seems a bit odd that the Jets wouldn't want to involve their third-round rookie in some way. Fantasy managers can continue to ignore Corley in redraft formats, but he's worth stashing in most dynasty formats.

Malachi Corley Could Be Healthy Scratch In Week 1

New York Jets wide receiver Malachi Corley could be a healthy scratch against the San Francisco 49ers this week, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. This would leave the Jets with five active receivers. Rosenblatt notes that Corley, a rookie, would likely need to prove his worth as a returner in order to be active for the season opener. Regardless of whether he dresses or not, Corley is merely a depth piece in New York and can be avoided in all redraft leagues.

Malachi Corley Held To A Lone Catch In Preseason Finale

New York Jets wide receiver Malachi Corley was held to one catch on three targets for five yards in Saturday night's preseason win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Corley hardly played in two-receiver sets with the Jets' backups on Saturday against the Giants, but it's also possible that means the team already has an eye toward fairly significant snaps for him in the regular season, as most of the team's starters were inactive altogether in this one. As it stands, the 22-year-old rookie third-rounder is in line to share snaps in the slot in Year 1 with the likes of Xavier Gipson and perhaps Allen Lazard on occasions New York opts for a power slot weapon. Corley has a long way to go to carve out fantasy relevance in most leagues, as he projects to be quarterback Aaron Rodgers' No. 4 or No. 5 target the majority of the time.

Malachi Corley Will Contribute As Gadget Player, Projects To Be WR5

New York Jets wide receiver Malachi Corley "can contribute immediately as a screen [and] gadget player, a la Deebo Samuel," according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Evidently, the rookie is expected to have a role within the offense as early as Week 1. However, Cimini also notes that Corley still projects as the Jets' WR5, though he can solidify his standing on the roster by contributing as a returner. Corley drew plenty of hype as soon as he was drafted this year, but it sounds like fantasy managers will have to wait a little while before seeing him have a steady role in the offense. For now, he's an appealing dynasty option but can be avoided in redraft leagues.

Malachi Corley Takes Step Back Saturday

New York Jets wide receiver Malachi Corley wasn't as involved in Saturday's preseason win over the hosting Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium, pulling in each of his two passes for 12 yards in the victory. A week after drawing a team-high five targets in last Saturday's preseason opener, Corley wasn't featured as much on Saturday against Carolina. The third-round rookie from Western Kentucky is looking to take over as New York's primary slot receiver alongside superstar wideout Garrett Wilson and veteran vertical threat Mike Williams in three-receiver sets in 2024, as second-year man Xavier Gipson hasn't done much to stand out during training camp and the preseason this summer. That role didn't bear much fantasy fruit, however, when Gipson and Randall Cobb shared slot snaps in New York last year, so Corley is just a WR5/6 stash in deep-league drafts.

Malachi Corley Draws Team-High Five Targets Against Washington

New York Jets wide receiver Malachi Corley led the team with five targets in Saturday's preseason win over the visiting Washington Commanders in East Rutherford, hauling in five passes for 27 yards. His longest catch of the day went for 14 yards. The Jets chose Corley with the first pick of the third round in the 2024 NFL Draft to bolster their receiving corps beyond the perimeter, and the 22-year-old wideout out of Western Kentucky has a chance to become New York's primary slot receiver if he can overtake Xavier Gipson as one of quarterback Aaron Rodgers' ancillary targets. Gipson failed to stand out in 2023 and has missed reps during training camp due to injury. Corley profiles similarly to a young Curtis Samuel, and he'll continue to be a name to watch for fantasy managers in next Saturday's preseason game against the hosting Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium.

Jets Sign Malachi Corley To Rookie Deal

The New York Jets signed third-round wide receiver Malachi Corley to a four-year, $6.073 million rookie deal on Wednesday that includes a $1.237 million signing bonus. Corley was the 65th overall selection in April's NFL draft after he caught 79 passes for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2023 with Western Kentucky. The 22-year-old comes highly touted for his yards-after-the-catch ability but could struggle to find regular playing time out of the slot for the Jets in his rookie season as long as Xavier Gipson stays healthy. However, Corley has drawn comparisons to Deebo Samuel and had 29 touchdowns in his last three seasons in college. If he can overtake Gipson at some point in 2024, he could be a popular waiver-wire pickup in single-year fantasy leagues in an offense led by future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
