Joins Jags

Jones has signed with the Jaguars.

Analysis: Jones will try to make a strong impression in camp and climb the Jaguars' depth chart at wide receiver. He appeared in five games for the Steelers in 2019, catching four of 10 targets for 61 yards.

Cut by Cowboys

Jones was waived Saturday by the Cowboys, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: A loaded Cowboys wide receiver depth chart made it unlikely Jones would finish on the final 53-man roster, a result that was confirmed Saturday. Jones could be a practice squad candidate for the Cowboys, however, which was how the 27-year-old made a couple of spot appearances with the Steelers last season.

Heads to Dallas

Jones signed with the Cowboys' practice squad Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Analysis: Jones was waived by the Steelers on Monday, and after clearing, he found a practice-squad role with a playoff contender. The Cowboys have six healthy wideouts on their active roster, but the depth Jones adds is important since Amari Cooper has dealt with recurring injuries this season.

Subject to waivers

The Steelers waived Jones on Monday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

Analysis: Jones made a key recovery on Diontae Johnson's fumble in Sunday's loss to the Bills, but the 26-year-old Jones also dropped two passes. As a result, the Steelers promoted Amara Darboh from the practice squad and let Jones go. If Jones clears waivers, he'll likely land on the practice roster.

Two catches in debut

Jones totaled 24 yards on two receptions in Pittsburgh's 21 - 7 loss to Cleveland Thursday night.

Analysis: Injuries to JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) and Diontae Washington (concussion) created an opportunity for Jones to make his professional debut. He was targeted four times and could see more action if Smith-Schuster or Washington are unable to clear the league's concussion protocol. Fortunately for fantasy owners Pittsburgh has 10 days until playing Cincinnati in Week 12.

Called to active roster

The Steelers signed Jones to the active roster from the practice squad Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Jones' opportunity on the 53-man roster comes with Ryan Switzer (back) ruled out for Thursday's divisional tilt against the Browns. The Memphis product spent time on the practice squads of the Texans and Chiefs after going undrafted in 2016, and he now gets his first chance on an active roster. Jones logged a 4.48 40-yard dash time during the 2016 combine, and he could offer upside on special teams.

Signs future/reserve contract

Jones signed a future/reserve contract with the Steelers on Monday according to the NFL's transaction report.

Analysis: Jones spent the season on the Steelers' practice squad after the wideout failed to make the 53-man roster. He'll now get an offseason to continue to grow in Pittsburgh's system.
