Tony Romo's Injury Helps Ezekiel Elliott and Hurts Dez Bryant

On August 25th, Tony Romo took a hit that injured his back severely enough to sideline him for the first half of the 2016 season.

While Romo’s fantasy value clearly took a nose dive, his impact on the rest of the Dallas offense is complicated.

Ezekiel Elliott and Dez Bryant are the top two fantasy players in Dallas. Below is their 12-team standard average draft position for the past month based on live mock drafts.

Ezekiel Elliott and Dez Bryant

You can see right before Romo’s injury, Elliott and Bryant were being drafted one after the other as the 10th and 11th picks overall in fantasy football drafts.

Today, Elliott has climbed even higher to the 7th overall position. Meanwhile, Dez has dropped to the mid-second round. A sharp drop for a top-tier receiver that will have a rookie quarterback throwing him the ball.

Clearly, fantasy owners are projecting that Dallas will take a more run-heavy approach while Romo is injured. It also indicates confidence in Dak Prescott to keep the offense moving.
