Funchess has been released by the Lions, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: When healthy, the 28-year-old Funchess still has something left in the tank, and he started the preseason strong by showing his value as a red-zone threat. However, a mid-August shoulder stinger curbed his momentum and Funchess was ultimately unable to do enough to earn a roster spot in Detroit. The Lions will presumably move forward with Brock Wright, James Mitchell and Shane Zylstra as depth behind T.J. Hockenson.
