Trevor Etienne Only Handles Five Touches in Week 5 Win Over Miami

Carolina Panthers rookie running back Trevor Etienne was in line for a bigger workload in Week 5 against the visiting Miami Dolphins on Sunday with starter Chuba Hubbard (calf) ruled out due to injury. Etienne did play a season-high 20% of the offensive snaps in the 27-24 victory, but he only handled five touches (four carries and one reception), while Rico Dowdle had a career day with 23 rushing attempts for 206 yards and a touchdown. Dowdle also caught three of his four targets for 28 yards in the passing game. Etienne ran for 22 yards on his four carries and picked up seven yards on his lone reception against Miami. The 21-year-old could be right back to RB3 duties in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys if Hubbard is able to overcome his calf injury and get back on the field at practice this week. Even if Hubbard misses another game, Etienne isn't going to be in play as a starting flex option in fantasy lineups on Sunday.

Trevor Etienne has Deep-League Value

Carolina Panthers running back Trevor Etienne is expected to see additional carries in the backfield in Week 5. The Panthers are going to be without Chuba Hubbard (calf) for this weekend. That being said, Rico Dowdle will be the lead back with Etienne as the primary backup. The 21-year-old hasn't done much early in the season. Last week, Etienne rushed the ball seven times for 33 yards in the loss to the New England Patriots. It was a limited workload, but the 4.71 yards per carry is nice to see. His workload will likely also be dependent on the game flow as the Panthers could abandon the running game if it becomes a blowout. The hope is that Etienne gets about 10 touches, which might be able to give him deep league value for this game against the Miami Dolphins.

Trevor Etienne Set to See Additional Touches on Sunday?

Carolina Panthers rookie running back Trevor Etienne is seemingly set to see some additional touches in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins, with Chuba Hubbard (calf) ruled out for Week 5. Etienne saw his snap percentage and workload increase in Week 4 with the Panthers getting blown out by the Patriots 42-13, but now with Hubbard out, Rico Dowdle will be the lead back, and Etienne will back him up. Etienne will likely see anywhere between five and 10 touches. On the season, he is averaging 4.63 YPC and has 37 rushing yards with one reception. He did have a fumble in Week 3 on his only touch, which happened on a kick return. In deeper leagues, he might be worth a stash in case he breaks out during his limited opportunities and starts to challenge the team a bit to give him more touchdowns down the stretch.

Trevor Etienne to See More Snaps?

Carolina Panthers running back Trevor Etienne could potentially see a few more snaps this weekend when his team takes on the hosting New England Patriots. Etienne has logged exactly two snaps in each of his first three appearances and two total touches thus far as he's comfortably behind teammates Chuba Hubbard (calf) and Rico Dowdle in Carolina's backfield pecking order. However, that may change in Week 4. Hubbard sustained a calf injury during the week of practice, and he's been labeled as questionable ahead of Sunday's outing with New England. If he's inactive, Dowdle figures to pick up most of the work in his stead, leaving the rookie in line to take over the former's backup duties. The sentiment is that Hubbard will play, but if he does not, Etienne would see extended work for the first time and could boast a larger role moving forward if he performs well. For now, he's RotoBaller's PPR RB85 for Sunday's contest.

Trevor Etienne Buried on the Depth Chart Entering Week 3

Carolina Panthers rookie running back Trevor Etienne has played only four offensive snaps through the first two games of his first year in the NFL and is the clear RB2 in Carolina's backfield behind Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle heading into a Week 3 divisional clash against the Atlanta Falcons. In the Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the 21-year-old didn't have a carry and caught his only target for a two-yard gain while playing two snaps. Currently, the Georgia product is primarily being utilized as the team's kickoff-return specialist. He has returned five kicks for 101 yards through two weeks. Etienne is only worth rostering as RB depth in dynasty/keeper leagues right now, and he probably won't be worth a look on the waiver wire unless Hubbard or Dowdle miss time with an injury.

Trevor Etienne Expected to Serve as Third String

Carolina Panthers running back Trevor Etienne did a nice job during the preseason. He showed he has breakaway speed to make a big play at any moment. Despite that, Etienne is unlikely to have a significant role to begin the season. Chuba Hubbard is going to be the lead back to begin the season. The Panthers brought in Rico Dowdle as a viable second option, so he'll likely be the second string. That means, Etienne probably isn't going to see much action right away. According to the team's official website, Etienne is penciled in as the third string back. However, the 21-year-old could wrestle away the second string job from Dowdle with more consistent play. For now, Etienne is a dynasty stash and someone that is unlikely to make an impact right away.

Trevor Etienne Shows Improvement in Preseason Finale

Carolina Panthers rookie running back Trevor Etienne showed some improvement during Carolina's preseason finale on Thursday evening. Facing the Steelers, Etienne ran the ball just three times, but racked up 26 yards. His longest run of the evening went for 28 yards. This was also his longest run of the preseason. During their second game, Etienne ran the ball for only 18 yards on seven attempts. In his debut, he did not fare much better, totaling just three rushing yards on two attempts. The Panthers selected Etienne in the fourth round of April's draft out of Georgia. Given his lack of consistent success during the preseason, fantasy managers should not expect the rookie running back to have a significant role in his debut campaign. Chuba Hubbard will likely serve as the clear workhorse with Rico Dowdle filling in as a strong No. 2 option.

Trevor Etienne Officially Signs With Panthers

Fourth-round rookie running back Trevor Etienne officially signed his rookie deal with the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday, according to NFL.com. The former Florida Gator and Georgia Bulldog is the brother of Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne. He racked up 2,081 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground and 432 yards and one score as a receiver in 34 collegiate games. Etienne will have a chance to compete for touches with veterans Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle in a backfield that could shake out to be a pure committee. He could be on the fantasy radar in deep leagues, but he will likely go undrafted in most standard-sized 12-team setups. With Jonathon Brooks (knee) out for the season, Etienne should be monitored as a rookie as a potential late-season waiver-wire add.
