Detroit Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will serve as the backup QB for Saturday's playoff game against the Washington Commanders. The Lions have opted to have an experienced quarterback behind Jared Goff which leaves Hendon Hooker as the emergency option. Bridgewater retired from the league after the 2023 season to coach his alma mater high school team. He came out of retirement in late December and served as the emergency third string quarterback to end the season. He's unlikely to see the field with Goff healthy, but having Bridgewater's experience on the sideline is never a bad thing.

The Detroit Lions signed free-agent quarterback Jake Fromm on Monday, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. This move comes just days after backup quarterback Hendon Hooker (head) entered concussion protocol. Head coach Dan Campbell said he doesn't expect Hooker back until later this week. Fromm, a 2020 fifth-round pick out of Georgia, has spent time with the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, and Washington Commanders. He's played in just three regular-season games and completed under 50% of his passes for 210 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. He now joins a quarterback room with Hooker, Jared Goff, and Nate Sudfeld. It would be a surprise if he sticks around and makes the Week 1 53-man roster.
